Legitimacy dropping to zero in the middle of a big war is bad!

I also learned what it means for an heir to have a weak claim. This should give me access to the straight during the next war (assuming I hold on to the east side) and also starts out with splitting the Ottomans in two. I took Konstantine and both sides of the Dardanelles. I ended up giving two territories to Wallachia (who I started annexing immediately after the war). Taking land was more limited by over extension rather than war score. I wasn't certain what the best peace option was. I managed to overrun all the Balkans and most of Turkey before they bowed out for a 100% war score. By the end of the war we were both out of manpower, but his army was down to 50k with half that being mercs. I started with 120k troops with 130k manpower, the Ottomans started with 100k troops and 50k manpower. After a few years of war it was clear that Mother Russia can bleed more. We kept throwing big stacks at each other - I was able to win most of the fights although I usually bled just as much. Then I had 100k troops fighting to clear Konstantine and everything west. I ended up keeping a 30k stack in eastern Turkey, safely within the mountains and behind a line of forts. Since I can't touch their navy at this point, they are free to cross their armies at any time while I have to walk all the way around the Black Sea to go from west to east. Attacking the Ottomans is tough because of the Dardanelles. It's a pretty lame thing to do but since I am learning this game I wanted to learn how to war better. Is the tech difference that significant? Or are Ottoman infantry particularly good?Īnyways, I reloaded to restart the war several times. They did start out +1 military tech on me and later in the war were +2. I still ended up taking more losses than him? This was how pretty much every battle of the war went - unless I took a massively favorable battle I would have at least equal or greater losses. At one point I took a battle where I attacked his 15 stack of infantry with my 16 infantry+20 cannons, I had one or two pips advantage in both shock and fire, and my general had better maneuver so I avoided any terrain penalties.

I'm not even really sure why battles were so rough.
